The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Tuesday an agreement with the United Arab Emirates to establish the first joint task force dedicated to accelerating the development of artificial intelligence applications in the military field.

CENTCOM, in a statement on X, said, “The official launch of the US-UAE task force, named Task Force Talon Synapse, to formally launch in the coming weeks.”

The statement added that the task force team, which will be based in Abu Dhabi, will include approximately 20 American and Emirati experts specializing in artificial intelligence, data, and cybersecurity.

The statement quoted Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of US Central Command, as saying, “This will be a historic milestone as we work with one of our most capable regional partners to rapidly deliver evolving AI advancements to our warfighters.”

Cooper added, ““Together, we and our Emirati partners share a strong commitment to adopting AI applications that will foster innovation at speed and scale.”

Admiral Cooper and the UAE’s National Security Advisor, Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, discussed the idea of establishing the task force last year.

During visit to the region last month, CENTCOM also held meetings with several leaders in the UAE’s AI sector and defense officials.

The task force will focus on integrating AI applications to support intelligence operations, protect critical infrastructure, and monitor the regional security environment. (EIR)
