An Iranian diplomatic source said on Tuesday that “Iran and Pakistan continue to exchange messages, yet there is no information about any agreement to hold the next round of U.S.-Iran peace talks.”
Quoting the same source, Iranian news agency IRNA reported that Pakistan’s commitment to continue mediation efforts remains unchanged.
In response to claims by some Pakistani sources and Western media outlets about a potential new round of negotiations in Islamabad, the source added that no information is yet available about any understanding to hold negotiations in Islamabad or within other frameworks.
Another diplomatic source in Islamabad confirmed that “another round of Islamabad negotiations could be held at any time and place, but there is no official decision on this matter yet.”
Likewise, a source close to the Pakistani Foreign Ministry stated that Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will be making official visits to Saudi Arabia and Turkey coming Friday and Saturday. Therefore, some media outlets have claimed that any future round of negotiations will be held before Sharif’s visits. The source also suggested that the next round of negotiations might be held in Ankara or Geneva, or in Islamabad itself.
