Kuwait has activated its emergency plan at Kuwait International Airport following targeted Iranian missile and drone strikes at the airport.

The country’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation said that the attack caused significant damage to airport infrastructure and resulted in casualties, though a precise figure is yet to be released.

It added that it has suspended flights and diverted them to alternative airports until further notice, emphasizing that the decision will remain in effect until the airport is deemed ready to resume operations.

The authority informed that technical teams have begun inspecting and assessing the damage to facilities and operational systems to carry out repairs, restoration for resumption of services.

For its part, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that US forces downed several Iranian ballistic missiles and drones, confirming that the attacks failed to achieve their objectives.

US Central Command added in a statement that US forces “conducted self-defense strikes on Qeshm Island in response to attempted attacks by Iran” in recent hours.

It added, “Iran launched several ballistic missiles toward regional neighbors; however, all failed to hit their intended targets.”

In Bahrain, CENTCOM stated that US and Bahrain air defense forces intercepted three missiles launched toward the kingdom.

It added that it shut down three attack drones launched by Iran toward civilian mariners who “were rightfully transiting regional waters.”

In a related development, the US military announced that it had disabled a vessel attempting to sail toward an Iranian port in violation of the US blockade, by firing a missile at it.

Washington has so far seized six ships attempting to break the embargo in effect since April 13.

CENTCOM stated that Botswana-flagged unladen oil tanker M/T Lexie “ignored repeated warnings” over a 24-hour period, and that a US “aircraft ultimately disabled the vessel by firing a Hellfire missile into the ship’s engine room, preventing the tanker from reaching Iran.” (EIR)
