Russia’s military said on Tuesday that it had carried out a huge strike, including with hypersonic missiles, targeting Ukraine’s military-industrial complex.
The “massive strike” using “high-precision weapons” was aimed at targets in the capital Kyiv as well as in regions of Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk, as well as energy and transport infrastructure used by the Ukrainian military in other regions, the Defense Ministry said in a statement.
Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia fired more than 600 drones and dozens of missiles — including hard-to-down ballistic missiles — at Ukraine, in an overnight barrage that killed at least nine people.
It said it detected 73 missiles and 656 drones launched by Russia’s army overnight, saying it downed 602 of the drones and 40 of the missiles.
Meanwhile, dozens of countries denounced Russia at the United Nations on Monday over a drone strike blamed on Moscow that hit a Romanian apartment building.
“Such behavior is unacceptable under international law and must stop,” Romanian Foreign Minister Oana-Silvia Toiu said in a statement representing 56 UN members, including from the European Union and NATO military alliance.
A 14-year-old boy and a 53-year-old woman were hospitalized on Friday after the drone hit a block of flats in Galati, close to the border with Ukraine.
