Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine targeted a Russian oil refinery in Ufa, home to one of Russia’s largest lubricant production facilities located more than 1,300 kilometers from the front line, for the second time.

In a post on X, Zelensky added, “Also in the Penza region, our weapons reached a strategic facility of Russia’s military-industrial complex involved in developing and manufacturing components for missile weaponry that the occupiers use to strike our cities and communities. The distance to the target is about 600 kilometers from the front line.”

He added, “Peace is needed, and this is exactly what Russia’s leadership must realize. Russia must end its war. And Russia’s leadership has every opportunity to do so.”

In a separate post, Zelensky thanked Cyprus for its fruitful and effective presidency of the Council of the European Union.

He wrote, “We managed to open the first cluster and officially launch negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU. We activated the European Union’s €90 billion financial support package,” adding, “The 20th package of sanctions against Russia was approved.”

He also called on Ireland, which is beginning its presidency of the Council of the European Union, to open the five remaining negotiating groups.

He added, “We also count on just pressure on Russia to expand. We are now at a point where, thanks to our long-range and mid-range sanctions, Russia has become particularly vulnerable. These successes should be backed by new decisive steps from Europe and our other partners.” (EIR)
