Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a “frank exchange” of views on the Ukraine war in Kuala Lumpur today, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry. US Secretary of State Rubio said his Russian counterpart Lavrov shared a “new idea” on Ukraine during their meeting held on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit in Malaysia.
“It’s not a new approach. It’s a new idea or a new concept that I’ll take back to the president (Donald Trump) to discuss,” Rubio said, cautioning it was not something that “automatically leads to peace, but it could potentially open the door to a path.”
“A substantive and frank exchange of views took place on the settlement of the situation in Ukraine,” a statement issued by Russian Foreign Ministry said.
