British authorities announced the thwarting of a large-scale plot targeting the RAF Fairford air base, also used by the U.S., arresting several suspects in connection with the planned explosives offenses, according to British media.
Authorities established a security cordon around the military facility and implemented exceptional protection measures, including the evacuation of nearby residences and the deployment of army bomb disposal teams to search suspicious vehicles and secure the site.
British Defense Secretary Wes Streeting said, “We can be reassured that this is being dealt with,” expressing his gratitude to all emergency services and specialist teams who responded swiftly to the incident in Gloucestershire.
The minister noted that this incident underscores the need for emergency response teams and the armed forces to remain on high alert 24/7.
Meanwhile, several homes in the Whelford area of Gloucestershire were evacuated following the declaration of a major incident. Several men have been arrested on suspicion of offenses related to the Explosives Act, and a bomb disposal team is on the scene.
Gloucestershire Police said in a statement, “A number of properties in the Whelford area are currently being evacuated following a major incident. This follows the arrest of several men on suspicion of offenses related to the Explosives Act.”
They added, “A specialist army bomb disposal team is currently examining a number of vehicles, and local residents are being moved to a nearby recreation center.” (EIR)
