FBI Director Kash Patel on Tuesday said that FBI and the Department of Justice on June 10 thwarted allegedly planned attacks targeting Sunday’s UFC America 250 event in Washington.
Posting on X on Tuesday, he said that multiple people were taken into custody after “a multi-state operation” stopped explosive drone-plots targeting White House UFC event on US President Donald Trump’s birthday.
“On June 10, the FBI and our law enforcement partners became aware of a potential threat to the UFC America 250 event in Washington, D.C. involving individuals outside of the National Capital Region,” he said, adding, “Signal chats allegedly revealed 23 people discussing pre-operational activity.”
The FBI director added, “Thanks to the rapid action of FBI, our partners, and the Department of Justice in a multi-state operation, multiple individuals are now in custody and allegedly planned attacks were stopped cold.”
Stating that the result was the best of investigative work and not unusual for US law enforcement teams, he wrote, “We are built to detect, respond to, and bring to justice those who threaten the lives of American citizens – particularly during large gatherings like the historic UFC 250 fight.” EIR
