A senior Houthi official has accused Egypt of effectively declaring war after the Egyptian parliament authorized military support for Saudi Arabia against attacks by the Iran-backed group. The warning on October 27 came a day after Saudi Arabia held talks in Tehran aimed at easing regional tensions.
Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, a member of the movement’s political bureau, condemned Egypt’s decision in a statement published on Telegram. The parliamentary authorization allows Egypt to provide military assistance to Saudi Arabia in defending against Houthi attacks, although the announcement does not establish that Egyptian forces have entered combat.
“It is truly remarkable that while these people go to discuss what they call ‘peace in the region,’ Egypt and its parliament declare support for the so-called defense of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” al-Houthi said. Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman led the Tehran delegation, accompanied by Pakistan’s army chief, General Asim Munir, and Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin. They met President Masoud Pezeshkian and Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. (AFP+EIR)
