The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said an ADNOC crude oil tanker was targeted by two Iranian drones while transiting the Strait of Hormuz. No injuries were reported in the attack.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations, UKMTO, had earlier said that a tanker reported being hit by unidentified projectiles, confirming that all crew members were safe. UKMTO added that it had received a report of an incident 78 nautical miles north off Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates.
UKMTO urged vessels to exercise caution while transiting the area, while authorities conduct their investigation. This report comes amid the ongoing stalemate in peace negotiations between the United States and Iran since the ceasefire went into effect on April 8.
US President Donald Trump announced a plan on Sunday, dubbed “Project Freedom,” to escort ships out of the Strait of Hormuz. In a post on X, US Central Command said starting Monday, its forces would begin supporting Project Freedom with guided-missile destroyers, over 100 land and sea-based aircraft, multi-domain unmanned platforms and 15,000 service members.
As of April 29, there were more than 900 commercial vessels in the Gulf, according to the maritime tracking company AXS Marine, compared to more than 1,100 vessels at the start of the conflict. (AFP/EIR)
