US envoy Thomas Barrack has expressed satisfaction with the Lebanese authorities’ response to Washington’s request concerning Hezbollah’s disarmament.
Speaking to reporters after his meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun today, Barrack said, “What the government provided us in a very short time was astonishing. I am very satisfied with the response.”
He also warned that Lebanon “will fall behind” if it fails to adapt to ongoing developments in the region.
During an earlier visit to Beirut in June, Barak had conveyed a message from the US administration to Lebanese officials requesting a formal commitment to disarm Hezbollah by the end of the year, according to an official Lebanese source.
