US President Donald Trump emphasized that “Iran has informed the United States that there are no tolls, no insurance costs, and no other charges of any kind” that Tehran is demanding or receiving from ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
On his Truth Social account, he wrote, “If this is false information, negotiations would end, immediately,” adding, “Additionally, no money has been given to Iran, or released from their money to them, by the US.”
He continued, “We will be releasing some of their money, that is totally controlled by us, to our Farmers and Ranchers, for the purchase of Corn, Wheat, Soybeans, and more.”
He concluded that Iran is in dire need of food, and the US will purchase it exclusively from the United States for Iran using Iranian money in the US.
Meanwhile, the US Senate passed a resolution, by a vote of 50 to 48, calling for the withdrawal of US forces from the conflict with Iran, in a symbolic setback for the US president. Due to Senate rules, the president will not need to use his veto power against it.
This vote presents a political obstacle for Trump amid negotiations with Iran, despite his party holding a majority in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
Trump criticized the congressional decision, calling it “poorly timed and meaningless.” (EIR)
