Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Monday said it was not currently involved in negotiations with the United States, despite a halt in recent fighting between the two sides.
“At present, we are not engaged in any negotiations with the United States,” said the ministry’s spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei at a weekly press briefing, denying reports that Iran had requested talks.
The ministry also warned of “unforeseen” consequences following Ukraine’s attack on an Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea over the weekend.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote on X that Ukraine had acted “at Israel’s behest to drag Europe into its war.”

“This action by Ukraine was an absolutely illegal and unjustified act, contrary to the Charter of the United Nations, as well as a dangerous act of adventurism that will certainly not go unanswered by us,” Baqaei said, adding that the consequences of Ukraine’s action “will certainly be unforeseen.”
Separately, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards navy stopped six vessels attempting to transit the strait through routes not approved by Iranian authorities, state television reported on Monday.
“Last night, six vessels that attempted to transit through a route other than the designated one were stopped by the IRGC Navy with warning shots and turned back,” a state television correspondent reported from the Gulf. Earlier state TV said one vessel was involved in an “incident,” without elaborating.
On Saturday, the Guards said they had stopped four vessels attempting to transit through the southern part of the strait after firing warning shots.
Iran has effectively blockaded the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the Middle East war in late February. (AFP)
