Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin denied that Russia held any official negotiations with Germany regarding the Ukrainian settlement in Azerbaijan.
In an interview with a Russian news agency, Galuzin said, “There have been and are no official contacts with Germany on the Ukrainian settlement, and they are unlikely to be possible, given the extremely aggressive anti-Russian rhetoric and practical steps of the German political leadership.”
He added, “As for informal meetings between representatives of various public structures in Russia and Germany, they have been and continue to be.”
Earlier, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev claimed that a meeting between Russian and German representatives took place in Baku last month, emphasizing that Azerbaijani authorities were not informed of the meeting or its content.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also confirmed that he had no information about the meeting that Aliyev claimed took place between Russian and German representatives in Baku.
Meanwhile, the two countries continue to trade strikes against each other. A Ukrainian drone strike on the central Russian region of Tatarstan killed at least 12 people in one of Kyiv’s most deadly single attacks of the more than four year war.
“According to the latest information, 12 people have been killed and 39 wounded as a result of the enemy done attack on Nizhnekamsk,” state media reported the regional press service as saying in a statement on Monday.
Similarly, a Russian artillery strike on Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region killed five people, regional prosecutor’s office said.
“On August 10, Russian forces carried out a massive artillery strike on the residential area of the village of Bugaivka in the Chuguiv district. Various houses were destroyed as a result of the enemy attack. Five people were killed,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement on Telegram. (EIR/AFP)
