Iranian media reported that two missiles struck a US Navy frigate attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz.
The Fars News Agency on X posts said that the frigate was targeted by missiles after it violated security protocols for transit and navigation near Jask and ignored warnings from the IRGC Navy.
Fars quoted local sources in southern Iran as saying that the US frigate was prevented from continuing its course due to the strikes, forcing it to retreat from the area.
Similarly, a source told the Tasnim News Agency regarding US’s Project Freedom in the Strait of Hormuz, “Iran is fully prepared for any scenario, and the Americans know that Iran will not allow Trump and US forces to bully us.”
The Tasnim source pointed to the initial shots fired by Iranian forces toward the US frigate, saying, “As happened in the 40-day war, the Iranian forces will not allow US combat forces to pass, and no passage will be permitted through the Strait of Hormuz without the permission of the Iranian forces.”
However, US Central Command on X refuted the Iranian claim that a frigate was hit. “No U.S. Navy ships have been struck. U.S. forces are supporting Project Freedom and enforcing the naval blockade on Iranian ports,” CENTCOM said. (EIR)
