Iran on Tuesday rejected Australia’s accusations of its involvement in two antisemitic attacks in Sydney and Melbourne, vowing to respond in kind to Canberra’s decision to expel its ambassador. “The accusation that has been made is absolutely rejected,” said foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei during a weekly press conference, adding that “any inappropriate and unjustified action on a diplomatic level will have a reciprocal reaction.” The Australian government announced on Tuesday that it had expelled the Iranian ambassador, withdrawn its own envoy from Tehran, and suspended operations at the embassy in Tehran, accusing the Islamic Republic of directing the two hostile attacks.
