French President Emmanuel Macron said that France will have a “very special role” in governing Gaza in the future, alongside the Palestinian Authority.

“We will play a very special role alongside the Palestinian Authority, and we will ensure that it has its role, but also that it carries out the necessary reforms for the day after” the end of the war in Gaza, Macron said upon his arrival in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, on Monday, to attend a summit co-chaired by the Egyptian and US presidents.

Macron confirmed the participation of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the Sharm el-Sheikh summit, describing it as “a very good sign… and a recognition of the role of the Palestinian Authority as a legitimate institution.”
