Europe is entering the 2026–27 winter with its gas reserves well below historical levels, raising concerns over energy security, supply shortages, and rising prices. According to the EU Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER), gas storage stood at just 75% of capacity on October 21, following a summer of disrupted LNG supplies, higher demand for gas-fired electricity, and slow stock replenishment. Europe’s shrinking gas reserves underscores its continued vulnerability to geopolitical disruptions in global energy markets, even as it seeks to reduce its dependence on external suppliers.
