Ethiopia Completes GERD Project

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced that the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) project on the Blue Nile River is completed and will be inaugurated in September.
Speaking before parliament today, Abiy said, “The work on the dam is now complete, and we are preparing for its official inauguration.”
He called on all downstream nations, including Egypt and Sudan, to join the inauguration and addressing their concerns, he said that GERD was not a threat but a shared opportunity for regional growth. He stressed that the energy and development the dam will usher in will not only benefit Ethiopia but also downstream nations.
