British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on Sunday the interception of an oil tanker belonging to Russian “shadow fleet” as it attempted to cross the English Channel.

Starmer wrote on X, “In the early hours of this morning, I directed our Armed Forces to intercept a shadow fleet oil tanker attempting to pass through the English Channel.”

He added, “This successful operation delivers yet another blow to Russia and reminds those fueling Putin’s war in Ukraine that we will not let them hide.”

He also thanked all those involved, including members of the British armed forces and law enforcement personnel who keep the UK safe all round the year.

Last February, the British government imposed its largest package of sanctions on Russia in four years, targeting the oil sector and military equipment supply networks, on the fourth anniversary of Russia’s war in Ukraine.

During her visit to Kyiv, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper unveiled nearly 300 new punitive measures, bringing the number of Russian individuals and entities subject to British sanctions to more than 3,000 since the outbreak of the war. (EIR)
