White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Monday that President Donald Trump “remains interested” in a diplomatic resolution with Iran, despite hinting at the possibility of “regime change” in the Islamic Republic just a day earlier.
Speaking to Fox News, Leavitt said, “If the Iranian regime refuses to engage in a diplomatic and peaceful solution — which President Trump is still interested in — then why shouldn’t the Iranian people take power away from this extremely violent regime that has oppressed them for decades?”
President Trump had previously asserted on his Truth Social platform that “destruction” is an accurate term to describe what happened to Iran’s nuclear sites, declaring that the mission had been accomplished.
