US Vice President JD Vance announced the establishment of coordination mechanisms to keep the Strait of Hormuz permanently open and prevent escalation in Lebanon.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, he said, “We have made progress on the nuclear issue, and technical discussions will continue throughout the week.”

He added, “We have laid a good foundation for reaching a final agreement, and we are also working on a mechanism to remove mines from the Strait of Hormuz.”

He continued, “We have made significant progress, but much work remains. The talks in Burgenstock continue despite some complaints, and we have made progress. We hope to reach a final agreement and a lasting settlement, and we are focused on celebrating the progress we have made.”

He said, “Talks with inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency will begin today in Burgenstock.”

He confirmed that a mechanism has been established to de-escalate tensions in Lebanon, adding, “During our discussions, we reached a mechanism for de-escalation and reducing tensions in Lebanon.” He noted that Israel has the right to defend itself, but within a framework that prevents the situation from spiraling out of control.

He added, “We want to protect Israel’s security and preserve Lebanon‘s sovereignty at the same time, and Iran must rein in Hezbollah. We made progress yesterday on the Lebanese issue in Burgenstock compared to the situation 24 hours earlier.”

He said, “There are inaccurate reports regarding Iranian assets, and the situation in Lebanon will remain under ongoing discussion. We want to establish a mechanism that ensures the funds go to help the Iranian people, not to finance terrorism.” (EIR)
