The U.S. military said it hit at least 140 targets in Iran in retaliation for an Iranian attack on another commercial ship in the Strait of Hormuz.
“U.S. forces hit approximately 140 Iranian military targets with precision munitions launched by land- and sea-based fighter aircraft, drones, and naval vessels,” the U.S. Central Command said in a statement.
The targets included missile and drone sites, naval capabilities, ammunition storage facilities, communication networks and coastal surveillance locations, it added.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guards announced they had hit a second vessel in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, state media reported, after closing the key waterway and trading strikes with the United States.
“A second vessel accused of violating regulations in the Strait of Hormuz has been struck,” the Guards said in a statement carried by state television IRIB, adding they had also attacked a US base in Qatar.
Explosions were heard over Qatar’s capital on Sunday, as residents received messages on their phones urging them to “remain in their homes and safe places”.
Kuwait’s military said its air defense forces were working to intercept an ongoing attack on its territory, as countries across the Gulf were targeted by drones and missiles.
The United Arab Emirates Defense Ministry said that air defenses were engaging missile and drone threats, while neighboring Bahrain sounded air raid sirens after the United States struck Iran following an attack in the Hormuz Strait.
Bahrain’s Interior Ministry urged citizens and residents to remain calm and head to the nearest safe place.
The Jordanian army said in a statement that three Iranian missiles landed in the Kingdom early Sunday morning, but did not cause any injuries.

Damage was limited to minor material losses.”
Similarly, British maritime agency UKMTO reported that the crew of a ship damaged off the coast of Oman had abandoned the vessel, an attack the United States blamed on Iran.
Iran had said earlier it struck and stopped a ship in the Strait of Hormuz for ignoring repeated instructions to use an approved route. (AFP)
