Lebanese President Joseph Aoun affirmed on Wednesday his country’s commitment to the “framework” agreement with Israel, considering it the best possible formula and one that has begun to yield positive results on the ground.

He noted that the US administration is now taking the Lebanese position seriously and that the Lebanese file is receiving direct attention from US President Donald Trump.

This came during Aoun’s meeting at Baabda Palace with a delegation from the ‘Orthodox Meeting’, led by Secretary-General and former MP Marwan Abu Fadel, according to a statement issued by the Lebanese Presidency on X.

Aoun emphasized the steadfastness of the Lebanese position, stating, “Our goals are clear, and we will not compromise on matters concerning Lebanon‘s rights.”

He acknowledged that the path to a solution and ending the “bloodshed” is fraught with difficulties and not easy, but he affirmed that there is still great hope for achieving results that will save Lebanon.

Aoun had previously affirmed that he would not back down from the path of negotiation, indicating that the road is not easy given Israeli calculations and developments related to the Iranian-American relationship.

He said that the “framework formula” would restore Lebanon’s rights through diplomatic means, if Israel adheres to its terms, considering that Lebanon now has an opportunity to regain the gains it had lost as a result of a “futile war,” especially in light of the supportive American momentum. (EIR)
