US President Donald Trump strongly threatened Iran if it did not stop its “highly paid proxies” in Lebanon from causing problems.

On Truth Social, he said: “Iran must immediately stop their highly paid PROXIES in Lebanon from causing trouble. If they don’t, we’ll hit Iran very hard again, just like we did last week, only harder.”

Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance confirmed Sunday that Washington seeks to reset its relationship with Iran and bring about a permanent transformation in Middle East relations, as talks began among representatives of Tehran, Washington, Doha, and Pakistan in Switzerland within the framework of the memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the conflict in the region.

Vance said, “We have made progress by working with the Qataris and Pakistanis, and I feel comfortable with what has been achieved in Lebanon,” adding, “We have witnessed great progress over the past three days in stabilizing the ceasefire in Lebanon, and we now see a common future in which everyone can work to promote peace and prosperity.”

He continued, “This is the beginning of technical negotiations that may not solve ‌every disagreement but it will allow us to sit together as teams for ‌the first ‌time ‌in history.”

He added, “President Trump asked us to start a new page to change our relationship with the Iranian people, and the president’s vision is based on a completely different Middle East ten years later compared to what it was before.”

He also said, “President Trump empowered us to find a diplomatic solution to a host of issues, and we are already seeing a decline in the prices of oil derivatives.”

In turn, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said, “We are witnessing a great day for world peace,” adding, “Intensive efforts have resulted in the meeting between Washington and Tehran in Bürgenstock, and perhaps we will return with a document for peace.”

For his part, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, at the press conference that preceded the start of the talks, said, “What is happening today in this meeting is important for the security of the region and the world. Today’s meeting is only the beginning of achieving the goals, and we are working for a better future for our region.” (EIR/Agencies)
