U.S. President Donald Trump threatened severe retaliation if Tehran is linked to an attempt to crash a flydubai flight to Israel, while Washington reinforced its military presence and the Iran war’s energy shock pushed EU governments into emergency talks over soaring diesel prices.

The UAE is investigating whether Wednesday’s attack by an Omani co-pilot was linked to terrorism after passengers helped prevent the aircraft from crashing before an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia. No Iranian connection has been established. Meanwhile, the U.S. has deployed additional Patriot missile batteries to protect Saudi and Qatari energy facilities from potential Iranian retaliation.

“Oh, they’ll be hit very hard. Don’t worry,” Trump said when asked whether Washington would retaliate if Iran were found responsible. Questioned about whether Tehran was involved, he said that “based on what I’m hearing” the answer appeared to be yes, while stressing that the matter remained under investigation. The comments come as the United States redeploys the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group and roughly 9,000 additional sailors and Marines to the Middle East, potentially bringing three U.S. aircraft carriers into the region by the end of October.

The warning comes as the conflict increasingly intersects with energy security and great-power diplomacy. Iran’s maritime authority for the Strait of Hormuz said three UAE-owned or chartered tankers recently struck in the area had been placed on its non-compliance list for allegedly violating Iranian transit requirements, underscoring continuing risks to shipping through the strategic waterway. Russian President Vladimir Putin, meanwhile, praised Iran’s resilience and said Moscow’s proposal for resolving the dispute over Iranian enriched uranium remained available, while expressing hope that Hormuz would reopen. Tehran also summoned Britain’s ambassador after rejecting UK allegations of Iranian involvement in an attempted sabotage incident near RAF Fairford.

The economic consequences are spreading beyond the region. EU governments are holding emergency talks Friday over soaring diesel prices after Washington pressed European allies to release strategic reserves, while Trump raised the possibility of restricting U.S. diesel exports. Oil remains around $100 a barrel, and Asian equities fell as investors weighed higher energy costs, inflation, and interest-rate risks. The immediate danger is that an unresolved aviation-security investigation creates another pathway to military escalation while Hormuz remains under pressure.

A confirmed Iranian role in the flydubai incident could intensify pressure on Washington to retaliate, while further tanker incidents could amplify the global energy shock. Developments in the UAE investigation, Hormuz shipping, U.S. regional deployments, and European fuel policy will help determine whether the conflict widens further militarily and economically.
