United States President Donald Trump said that Iran requested a meeting and that it will take place Tuesday in Doha.
Trump posted on Truth Social Monday, “Iran has requested a meeting. It will take place tomorrow in Doha.”
Trump’s post comes after Iran’s Foreign Ministry earlier on Monday denied reports that Iranian and American technical teams will meet in the coming days to discuss implementation of the deal to end the Middle East war.
“No technical meetings of the working groups are planned for this week,” Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said, quoted by state TV, referring to the Iranian week ending on Friday.
Earlier, Washington and Tehran agreed to halt attacks after new tit-for-tat strikes strained their interim deal, with the sides planning to renew talks aimed at ending the Middle East war.
A US official said, “Technical talks are slated to continue on all areas of the MOU,” referring to the memorandum of understanding struck between Washington and Tehran. “Both sides will stand down for now and vessels can move freely” in and around the Strait of Hormuz,” the official added.
In recent days, each side has accused the other of violating the ceasefire, in a renewed escalation of tensions following the signing of the MoU on June 17.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also disclosed that $6 billion of the $12 billion in frozen assets in Qatar will be released and transferred to Tehran as planned, Iranian media reported earlier in the day. (EIR)
