Iran War: Renewed Escalation, Stalled Negotiations
Share:

The U.S.–Israeli war on Iran entered its 100th day on Monday with renewed escalation after Tehran launched attacks on Tel Aviv in support of Hezbollah and in retaliation to routine Israeli violations of the ceasefire in Lebanon. Israel responded with a large-scale attack against targets in Iran.

This development comes as negotiations between Tehran and Washington have grinded to a standstill, without an agreement in place.

The war began on February 28 with U.S.–Israeli airstrikes on Iran, resulting in the deaths of more than 3,000 people. On April 8th, Washington and Tehran declared a two-week ceasefire brokered by Pakistan, hoping to pave the way for an agreement to end the war.

On April 21, U.S. President Donald Trump announced an extension of the ceasefire in a post on Truth Social at the request of Pakistan, pending Tehran’s response to a U.S. proposal.

Subsequently, the United States and Iran entered direct negotiations aimed at reaching an agreement that would bring a permanent cessation of hostilities. However, the talks stalled due to ongoing disagreements between the two parties.

Tehran, through Pakistani mediation, presented a new proposal to revive the negotiations, but Washington expressed reservations, deeming Iranian demands unacceptable.

One hundred days after the start of the war, diplomatic efforts remain deadlocked, Washington continues its naval blockade on the Islamic Republic’s ports, and the Strait of Hormuz remains effectively closed to global maritime traffic by Tehran. (EIR)
