US President Donald Trump vowed Wednesday to attack Iran relentlessly over the coming two to three weeks, saying the United States is “nearing completion” of its objectives in the war .

After Trump threatened to bomb the country into the “Stone Ages” in the coming weeks, Iran’s military responded on Thursday by pledging to carry out “crushing” attacks against the United States and Israel .

Speaking in his first national address since the war began on February 28, Trump hailed American forces for scoring “overwhelming victories” in the conflict and sought to reassure war-weary Americans that the offensive was worth the effort.

He also assured regional allies — Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait and Bahrain — battered by Iranian drone and missile attacks, that the United States “will not let them get hurt or fail in any way, shape or form.”

Trump indicated that talks may be possible with Iran’s new leadership, signaling he is pursuing some form of deal to end the conflict. But he warned that if none was reached, Washington had “our eyes on key targets including the country’s electric generating plants.”

Iran’s president accused the US of war crimes and being influenced by Israel ahead of Trump’s address.

Israel’s military said air defenses were responding on Thursday to a fourth Iranian missile attack within six hours, as sirens sounded in parts of northern Israel. (AFP)
