US President Donald Trump has said that Iran talks are rapidly evolving and that Iran was prepared to abandon its nuclear program.

He also expressed a willingness to meet Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei once a peace deal is reached.

In an interview to a US media outlet on Wednesday, the US president expressed optimism over reaching a deal ‘fairly quickly’ to end the war and reopen the Hormuz Strait. “I think that we’ll have it. I think this will resolve itself fairly quickly,” he said.

Albeit, he acknowledged that he’s frustrated by the possibility that Israeli attacks on Lebanon could derail the peace process. In this context, he admitted he called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “f–king crazy” during a Monday phone call.

“I was a little bit perturbed at his constantly fighting with Lebanon,” Trump said, emphasizing they have worked well together. “We’ve worked very well together. I like Bibi a lot. And I work very well with him,” Trump added. “I’m a wartime president. He’s a wartime prime minister.”

Trump’s interview comes as the US military said Tuesday night that it disabled an Iranian oil tanker attempting to break the blockade in place and launched strikes on an Iranian “military ground control station” on Qeshm Island. In retaliation, Iran attacked Kuwait and Bahrain at dawn on Wednesday. Iran’s attack on Kuwait airport killed one Indian national and wounded at least 63 persons, Kuwait’s Health Ministry said.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards on Wednesday claimed the attack against Kuwait, which it said was in retaliation for US attacks on an Iranian oil tanker and island.

“In response to this aggression, the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, which hosts helicopters, as well as the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, were targeted with missiles and drones by the Guards’ forces,” the Guards said in a statement on their official Telegram channel. EIR/AFP
