Pakistan said on Thursday the U.S. and Iran are willing to hold talks and Islamabad was keeping channels open between Washington and Tehran for the next round of talks.

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said dates and venue for the talks were yet to be decided and that the nuclear issue, among others, was being discussed.

Stating that Lebanon remains part of the ceasefire in effect, the ministry said peace in Lebanon was essential for peace talks.

In related development, a senior Iranian official said Pakistani army chief’s trip to Iran helped reduce differences in some areas.

“After the trip, there are greater hopes for extending the ceasefire and holding a second round of talks,” the source said, adding that fundamental disagreements remained over nuclear issues.

“The fate of Iran’s highly enriched uranium and the duration of its nuclear restrictions remain unresolved.” Reuters
