The Kremlin said Wednesday that Ukraine’s appointment of a new commander-in-chief will not change the situation on the frontline.
“I don’t think this will lead to any changes on the front lines,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, adding that Moscow intends to continue pressing in its almost four-and-a-half-year offensive.
In a related development, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said he will meet US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Manila on Thursday for talks set to focus on the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.
“The meeting will be useful in any case. It’s good to ask questions and get answers,” Lavrov told reporters on Wednesday.
He said the meeting would take place on Thursday morning on the sidelines of an ASEAN gathering of Southeast Asian foreign ministers in the Philippine capital.
On the ground, Ukrainian drones targeted the Russian e-commerce giant Wildberries on Wednesday, for the second time in a week. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Wildberries of supplying the Russian military.
Authorities said the attack targeted the company’s warehouses in southern Russia, four days after a similar attack hit two large warehouses near Moscow, killing eight workers and causing a fire that nearly destroyed the facilities.
Wildberries is Russia’s largest online retailer and is often described as the Russian equivalent of Amazon.
Krasnodar region Governor Veniamin Kondratiev said 10 people were wounded in an attack on a storage facility in the capital city, though it was not immediately clear whether he was referring to the Wildberries warehouse. (AFP)
