US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that Indian imports will face 25 percent tariffs to counter the country’s “obnoxious” trade policies, while adding a “penalty” for its purchases of Russian weapons and energy.

“We do relatively less business with them because their tariffs are far too high and they have the most strenuous and obnoxious non-monetary trade barriers of any country. Also, they have always bought a vast majority of their military equipment from Russia, and are Russia’s largest buyer of ENERGY, along with China,” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform. The tariffs are set to apply from August 1. (Agencies)
