Russia warned the United States on Thursday against making “unacceptable” arms deliveries to Ukraine, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov “stressed that it was unacceptable to continue supplying weapons to the Kyiv regime” in a meeting with his US counterpart Marco Rubio in Manila, it said.

Lavrov condemned “a destabilizing policy by European countries, which are still seeking to inflict a ‘strategic defeat’ on Russia,” in their meeting held on the sidelines of an Asian summit.

He repeated that the Russian side was ready for a “political-diplomatic resolution to the conflict“, according to the Foreign Ministry.

This comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that he had spoken with US envoys Steve Witkopf and Jared Kushner to “reinvigorate diplomacy” and bring peace closer.

The US-led talks to resolve the conflict have stalled since the US shifted its focus to its war with Iran, while Russia maintains its hardline demands that Ukraine cede territory and limit the size of its military.

Zelensky on X said, “I just spoke with President Trump’s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. It was a good, important conversation on how to reinvigorate diplomacy and bring peace closer.”

He added, “Peace is needed – peace with dignity, and Ukraine has long been ready for it. Our teams keep staying in close contact, including to follow up on everything we have discussed.” (AFP/EIR)
