Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said, “We don’t seek nuclear weapons, and that’s what we signed,” adding, “We signed the commitment not to possess nuclear weapons at America’s request.”
For his part, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei emphasized that implementing any document is more important than simply signing it, and that they have been pursuing this matter from the beginning.
He added, “The meeting reflects our seriousness in demanding that the other party adhere to and implement its commitments.”
He said that the Burgenstock meeting will last one day and will include morning and afternoon sessions. “We will hold bilateral meetings with the mediating Qatari and Pakistani delegations, and a second meeting will be between the Iranian and American delegations in the presence of representatives from Qatar and Pakistan.”
He said that the ongoing conflict in Lebanon between Israel and militant group Hezbollah will top the agenda in talks with the United States in Switzerland, as well as issues such as frozen Iranian funds and the sale of the country’s oil.
“The Zionist regime continues to violate its commitment in Lebanon, this issue will be the main topic of discussion in today’s talks,” Baqaei said in a video shared by IRNA state news agency. He added that Tehran would also pursue the issue of its frozen and inaccessible funds during the talks.
“The issue of making available Iran’s frozen or restricted assets, as well as the discussion related to issuing the necessary licenses for the sale of Iranian oil, will also be on the agenda,” he said.
Meanwhile, Pakistani media reported the meetings would start at the technical level in Switzerland, with the participation of members from the four countries’ delegations, which may continue until Monday.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir arrived in Switzerland on Sunday, where they will continue to lead mediation efforts in the planned talks between the United States and Iran, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said on X.
US Vice President Jay D. Vance and Iran’s chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf will also participate in the talks, which aim to permanently end the conflict in the Middle East based on the memorandum of understanding signed by the two sides. The negotiations will be held at the luxurious Burgenstock Hotel near Lake Lucerne. (AFP/EIR)
