Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned his European counterpart to avoid “confrontation” as Beijing seeks to present itself as a stable counterbalance to Washington.
During a meeting in Brussels with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, a Chinese foreign ministry statement today quoted Yi as saying, “China and the European Union should not be regarded as opponents because of differences, nor should they seek confrontation because of disagreements.”
Kallas earlier charged that Beijing must stop threatening European security, accusing it of carrying out cyberattacks, democratic interference and unfair trade practices.
