US tariffs of 50 percent took effect on Wednesday on many Indian products, effectively doubling existing tariffs as President Donald Trump sought to pressure New Delhi over its purchases of Russian oil. The energy imports have become a major source of revenue funding Moscow’s war in Ukraine. Exemptions remain in place for sectors such as pharmaceuticals and computer chips, which could face separate measures. (AFP)
