Three Iranian officials, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, will oversee the transition in Iran following the assassination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, state television reported citing Mohammad Mokhber, one of Khamenei’s advisors.
As per Mokhbar, the trio will include Pezeshkian, Judiciary chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, and a lawyer from the legal council.
Meanwhile, Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said that the transition process will begin Sunday.
“An interim leadership council will soon be formed. The president, the head of the judiciary and a jurist from the Guardian Council will assume responsibility until the election of the next leader,” Larijani told state TV.
“This council will be established as soon as possible. We are working to form it as early as today.”
