Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed on Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin is open about meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky once the necessary preparation is done by experts.

US President Donald Trump, ahead of the end of a 10-day ultimatum he gave earlier to Putin to reach a ceasefire in Ukraine, announced on Sunday that his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, will travel to Moscow this week. Regarding Witkoff’s arrival, Peskov said, “We are always happy to see Mr. Witkoff in Moscow… We consider such contact important, substantial and helpful.” He added a meeting with President Putin is possible. He continued, “The US continues its mediation efforts in the Ukrainian settlement, and these efforts are extremely important in the context of direct negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv.”

Peskov reiterated that Russia’s commitment to resolve the Ukraine conflict through political and diplomatic means. Also emphasizing Russia’s core principle that “there can be no winner in a nuclear war,” he said Moscow maintains a responsible stance regarding nuclear rhetoric. (Agencies)
