The German search engine Ecosia has ended its partnership with Mistral, five months after leaving OpenAI, and is now likely to turn to a German platform offering Chinese models. For Europe, AI sovereignty may depend less on developing a competitive domestic model than on preserving the ability to switch between credible alternatives.
