British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has proposed a five-point plan to resolve the crisis concerning the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, announcing that this week the UK will host a meeting of the countries that signed a declaration of intent to explore diplomatic avenues to reopen the strait.
He stressed that the war in the Middle East is not Britain’s war and that Britain will not be drawn into the conflict, adding that the war clearly affects his country’s future and he would continue to push for de-escalation.
He clarified that he would not succumb to any pressure, saying, “Whatever the pressure, whatever the noise, I am the British prime minister and I have to act in our national interests.”
Saying that Britain is prepared to play a leading role in resolving the Strait of Hormuz crisis, he said the UK “will “assess all viable diplomatic and political measures that we can take to restore freedom of navigation, guarantee the safety of trapped ships and seafarers and resume the movement of vital commodities.” (EIR)
