The United States, Egypt, Qatar and Turkey signed a declaration on Monday as the guarantors of a Gaza deal aimed at ending two years of war. “The document is going to spell out rules and regulations and lots of other things,” Trump said before signing, repeating twice that “it’s going to hold up”.

“The Gaza agreement is the largest and most complex, and we do not want a third world war,” he added.

Trump emphasized that the process went smoothly and in a way no one expected, noting that everyone was pleased with the outcome. He continued, “The document we just signed is historic,” adding, “Together we have achieved what everyone said was impossible: peace in the Middle East.”

He stressed that the war in Gaza is over, aid has begun to flow, and that the reconstruction phase of Gaza may be the most challenging stage ahead.

For his part, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said, “Trump’s courageous efforts helped achieve the Gaza agreement. We emphasize the two-state solution as the only way to consolidate peace. The security of people cannot be achieved through military force alone, and peace is our strategic choice.” He called on the Israeli people to extend a hand toward achieving peace.

Announcing that Egypt would host an early recovery conference for Gaza, al-Sisi stated, “In a few days, we will work to lay the common foundations for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.” He added, “The Gaza agreement closes a painful chapter in human history, and we want to build a Middle East that is resilient against terrorism and extremism.”

He concluded, “The Gaza agreement paves the way for a new Middle East and the achievement of a two-state solution. We also aspire to a Middle East free of weapons of mass destruction.” At the end of the ceremony, al-Sisi presented Trump with the Nile Medal in appreciation of his peacemaking efforts.
