The Pentagon is preparing plans for weeks of ground operations in Iran, reports cited US officials, and the US Central Command announced the arrival of the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli in the Middle East, amid soaring speculation about the possible deployment of US ground troops in Iran.

US-Israeli strikes on Sunday hit a quay of Bandar Khamir at an Iranian port city near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, killing five people. On Saturday, Yemen’s Houthi rebels announced a second missile attack targeting Israel, after stepping into the Middle East war in support of their ally Iran earlier in the day.

Also, Pakistan’s government said foreign ministers from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt will meet in Islamabad on Sunday and Monday for talks on the war.

Meanwhile, Iran‘s Revolutionary Guard on Sunday threatened to target US universities in the Middle East. (AFP)
