Conservative Peter Magyar said Viktor Orban, who has led the country for 16 years, has conceded defeat in Hungarian parliamentary elections.

With 97.35 percent of precincts counted, Magyar’s Tisza party secured 138 seats in the 199-seat parliament on 53.6 percent of the vote, according to official election results.

Thousands of Tisza supporters celebrated the results outside party headquarters. Magyar told the jubilant crowd that voters had “liberated Hungary,” describing his party’s victory as a “miracle” in the Central European nation of 9.5 million people. (AFP)
