Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he was hoping for Moscow‘s answer on Wednesday to the latest version of a draft proposal to end the war agreed between Washington and Kyiv.
“We will receive the Russian response after the American side speaks with them,” Zelensky told reporters, in comments published Wednesday, as he outlined details of the new 20-point plan thrashed out in weekend talks in Miami.
He said US and Ukrainian negotiating teams failed to agree on long-term territorial issues during talks on how to end the Russian war, calling for them to be discussed at the leaders’ level.
He added the latest version of the plan to end the Russian invasion would freeze the front line, but still pave the way for Ukrainian withdrawals and the creation of demilitarized zones.
Zelensky also clarified that the draft proposal envisioned that Ukraine, Russia and the United States would jointly operate the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, a measure Kyiv opposed. (AFP)
