Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Saturday he hoped talks with the United States would resume soon, while reiterating Tehran’s red lines and warning that Tehran would target US bases in the region if the US attacked Iranian territory.
Talks between Iran and the United States opened Friday in Oman since the US bombed Iranian nuclear facilities last June during a 12-day war with Israel.
US President Donald Trump said Washington had held “very good talks” on Iran, adding, “We’re going to meet again early next week”, while Araghchi said talks was held in ‘very positive atmosphere’.
Araghchi said Sunday that Iran will never surrender the right to enrich uranium, even if war “is imposed on us”, defying pressure from Washington.
He added his country was not intimidated by the US naval deployment in the Gulf, two days after talks with Washington’s envoy.
“Their military deployment in the region does not scare us,” Araghchi said, after US President Donald Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff visited the US aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln in the region. (AFP)
