London recently witnessed large demonstrations led by far-right activist Tommy Robinson, with more than 110,000 participants. At the same time, anti-racism campaigners organized a counter-protest that drew around 5,000 demonstrators. Robinson’s supporters rallied under the slogan “Unite the Kingdom” and listened to speeches, including a video address by American billionaire businessman Elon Musk. The organizers also announced the participation of prominent far-right figures, such as Steve Bannon, former advisor to US President Donald Trump, and Éric Zemmour, leader of France’s Reconquête party.
The most prominent demands of the far-right demonstrators included combating illegal immigration, defending freedom of expression, preserving national identity and British heritage, and resisting what they called the “Great Replacement” theory. Meanwhile, the anti-racism protesters called for rejecting extremism and racism, standing in solidarity with refugees and migrants, and promoting community unity against division.
