French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot on Wednesday said that the crackdown on protesters in Iran is the most violent in the country’s contemporary history, and urged authorities to end it.

At least 734 people are confirmed to have been killed in an Iranian security force crackdown on protests, though the actual death toll is likely in the thousands, a rights group said on Tuesday.

“What we suspect ‍is that this is the most violent repression in ‌Iran’s contemporary history ‍and that it must absolutely stop,” Barrot said. (AFP)
