Where is the Middle East War Headed?

Eagle Intelligence Reports • April 1, 2026 •

What began as a U.S.–Israeli military operation against Iran has rapidly morphed into an open-ended regional crisis, recalibrating global priorities amid rapid escalation and growing repercussions.

A month into the war, the deepening crisis has cast its shadow on various arenas, from disruptions to maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and soaring energy prices to declining liquefied natural gas supplies in several countries.

At the same time, the scope of military operations has also expanded, with the Gulf states, Jordan, and Iraq facing Iranian missile and drone attacks and Israel launching a military operation in Lebanon. This trajectory reflects a shift in the nature of the conflict, surpassing conventional forms of engagement.

Today, the escalation of the war is felt on multiple levels; energy markets have undergone sharp fluctuations, with the price of oil surging by more than 60 percent. A global supply deficit of approximately 20 million barrels per day has been recorded, with the price climbing from $72 per barrel before the war to around $118 at present.

In the absence of a well-defined political resolution and timeline, the ongoing negotiations—mediated by Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt—remain closed-door consultations unable to produce a concrete framework to end the war or limit its escalation.
