Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari stated that US President Donald Trump’s plan stipulates that “handing over the hostages will lead to an end to the war in Gaza,” explaining that “the US position is clear in linking a ceasefire to the handover of hostages.”
During a press conference on Tuesday, al-Ansari said that many provisions of Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza still need to be agreed upon by the parties. He noted that Monday’s session included four hours of precise and intensive negotiations, adding that the next round of talks resumed today in Sharm el-Sheikh.
He added that Qatar is working in coordination with the US side to ensure that the plan’s implementation is not temporary, stressing the importance of a rapid, practical, and mutually agreed-upon mechanism. The spokesperson said that all parties have agreed to President Trump’s plan for a ceasefire in Gaza, emphasizing that it is too early to discuss any alternatives should Trump’s plan fail.
Explaining that current challenges are related to implementation mechanisms, he stressed that the most important priority now is to begin implementing the ceasefire and stop the war machine that continues to claim the lives of Gaza’s children. He also clarified that Israel bears responsibility for the continued bombing and shooting in Gaza.
